1Works Intermittently, Poor Kenwood Service
By buckeyerich
I had high hopes for this product, but here's my take. First, I installed it with the optional Kenwood bluetooth adapter. My wife likes to use her blackberry to talk on the phone in the car, and I would like to use My HTC Evo to stream audio and make calls. We constantly received an error, HF 68, which forces us to reset the unit. Of course, every time we did that, we had to set up many items, like the clock, rear camera, etc. Then, the unit wouldn't play at all and flashed "Protection" as the error. I spoke with Kenwood techs on three different occasions. They weren't very helpful. They advised me to upgrade the software, which I did. They advised me to reset the unit. I did. They also advised me to pull the unit, unplug the bluetooth and speakers, reset the unit, and plug everything back in. I did, and I'm still getting the bluetooth error which prevents us from making calls and streaming audio. On the third call, a Kenwood rep said I had no warranty coverage either because I bought from a non-authorized Kenwood reseller. I had no idea of this, as I simply found this unit on Amazon and purchased it. So, currently, I have a defective unit and no way to get it fixed. I'm currently hoping the seller will accept a return. I'm extremely dissatisfied with the poor level of support from Kenwood. Their techs weren't very knowledgeable at all.

As for the rest of the radio, a few comments. I don't like that there are no preset buttons for the radio, and switching from AM to FM is also difficult to do. It would serve them well to add more buttons on the unit versus navigating the jog wheel or using the remote to do basic functions like that. Plus, I didn't think it provided very good sound either. Our stock radio sounded better. For the bluetooth, I would like the ability to prioritize which phone to default to if more than one paired phone was in the car, but you have to tell the unit which phone to default to each time you are in the car. Kenwood informed me that this was standard for everybody's units, which I would be very surprised to find out. I can't say for sure, because this is my first bluetooth unit, but that would be a very stupid way to manage things. You should be able to set a primary phone that it defaults to if multiple phones are in the car.

At this point, I'm hoping to get my money back and move to another unit. This device is, in my opinion, terrible. I will follow up with more information once I get resolution on my issues.

5Best Deck I have bought
By Anthony
simply great, excellent audio quality. Great look in car too. Menu easy to navigate, not to mention a great number of customization features. I would definitely recommend

4Solid Receiver, Good Sound, Slightly Complicated Menus
By Michael Sobczyk
This a pretty good receiver that puts out good sound. I have it installed in the cabin of our boat and it drives 4 6.5" speakers. No complaints in functionality or sound and the external music input options are awesome. My only complaint is in the menus. Setting this thing up and configuring it can be a pain. I'm usually the type that just figures things out - and having used 30 - 40 different head units, I consider myself relatively skilled. However, turning the demo mode off this thing was not easy to figure out and most of the menu navigation can be frustrating. But, once you have it all configured, it works great.
